9-year Tirupati prodigy may clear MSc

E-Mail this report to a friend

Nine-year-old Divy Tej may earn the distinction of being the youngest student to appear for the post-graduate examination in zoology in the Sri Venkateswara University.

Hailing from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Divy, son of an English teacher, is a child prodigy. Notwithstanding the fact that he is a fourth standard drop-out, his knowledge of zoology is 'amazing'.

Sri Venkateswara University Vice-Chancellor, Professor K Enoch was taken by surprise when Divy's father Uday Bhaskar (35) and mother Valli (30) met him a few days ago and placed a request seeking permission for their son to appear for the examination.

Professor Enoch found him 'extraordinarily' talented after initial tests.

Immensely pleased with the boy's performance, he constituted a special committee which further tested Divy's knowledge of the subject.

Once again, Divy proved his mettle.

The committee, comprising SVU College principal, dean of natural sciences and three senior faculty members of the zoology department, was impressed with his performance and recommended his case to the university's executive committee.

Showering praise on Divy, University Registrar Professor B Mohan told the media last evening that the boy was endowed with natural talent, creativity and possessed sound knowledge of zoology.

Professor Mohan, however, said certain modifications in the examination pattern had to be made with regard to rules and regulations. The next meeting of the executive would decide on the issue, he added.

Divy's father said his son voluntarily dropped out from school in the fourth standard and passed the tenth standard last year after obtaining permission from the state government.

The boy said he had done dissections on various creatures including a shark, lizards, frogs, cockroaches and rats.
