'He is quite a character'

Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 14:36:13EST -0500
Subject: The Clinton visit

I fail to get this. President Narayanan is, for once, forthright and "corrects" the inappropriate utterances about Kashmir and what do we have as a response from the MEA and its cohorts (the press)? Disbelief!

So what does the Indian media and Parliament agree with? Is Kashmir the most dangerous place on the face of the earth? If you ask me, the most dangerous place(s) on the face of the earth are the school classrooms in the US where the future of the world's second largest democracy goes for education and the madrasas in Pakistan where innocent minds are altered beyond reformation. Will someone with a backbone please speak up for and stand by our President?

Is Bill Clinton's visit to the subcontinent the only news that rediff is going to cover these days? Are there no other news stories that merit attention? This is a pathetic obsession with the president of the United States.

I think this is the best article I have read on your site. The article meticulously sticks to facts and projects a clear picture of the President. Good job!

This feature will surely touch the hearts of both, those who admire as well as those who dislike President Clinton. The writer surely knows a lot more about the American president than many of us who live in the States do.

Very inspiring and easy to read, the article covers President Clinton's accomplishments in depth. True, he is quite a character, as your article concluded. He has surrounded himself with extremely talented people, people he has chosen himself. A fact which is another reason for his success.

I simply loved the article written by Sheela Bhatt. The best article yet on a complex, intelligent, but flawed man who became president. Well done!

You are hundred per cent correct. Bill Clinton is a good leader and a great president. I wish he could contest in the next election too. I will vote for him again and again.

Who is this Maharaja and his Hemalata? Is Rajasthan still ruled by the Maharajas? As far as I know, In South India, at least in Kerala, Maharajas no longer exist and we believe in democracy.

I read on the Internet that Clinton has decided not to meet the Indian press in India and only the US press corps has full access to his briefings and press conferences. Is that true? If so, he is making a blunder and is going to regret this decision for a long time.

How can he visit the largest democracy in the world and not respect its strongest institution, the free press? A sad day for democracy everywhere in the world!
