NC candidate Mirza Abdul Rashid wins J&K RS seat

Mirza Abdul Rashid of the National Conference was today elected to the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir.

The seat had fallen vacant after the resignation of Dr Karan Singh. Rashid defeated the combined opposition candidate, Vidya Sagar.

Official sources said Rashid received 59 votes and Vidya Sagar 11. Some members abstained.
