Advani asks Tripura to use police force more effectively

Union Home Minister L K Advani has asked the Tripura government to use the state police more effectively and strengthen its intelligence network to combat militancy.

Winding up his two-day visit to the state, Advani told newspersons that a better co-ordination between the state police and the central para-military forces was needed to tackle militancy.

Lauding the efforts of the police in wiping out militancy in Punjab, Advani said the army and the central para-military forces could render necessary assistance in combating militancy.

One more Tripura State Rifles battalion and two more Border Security Force battalions would be raised for Tripura, he added.

Advani also asked the state government to identify terrorist leaders and detain them under the National Security Act.

''Our top most priority is to instil a sense of security among the people," Advani observed.

He also said that security and developmental issues must go hand in hand and added that the Union government was giving a lot of attention to the development of the North-East region.
