Subhash Gupta convicted for Personal Point murders

E-Mail this report to a friend

A Delhi court on Tuesday convicted Subhash Gupta, the main accused in the Personal Point murder case.

The other nine accused have been acquitted as their involvement could not be proved.

Additional Sessions Judge Neeraj Kumar Gupta in his 615-page order convicted Gupta under section 302, 201 and 365 of the Indian Penal Code. He did not impose section 120-b as the offences for criminal conspiracy could not be proved.

On June 6, 1996, Dr Suneel Kaul, owner of Personal Point, a health centre, and his two employees, Deepa Gupta and Sujata Saha were kidnapped. Dr Kaul's body was found in Haryana the next day, while the bodies of Deepa and Sujata were found mutilated after two days in some fields in Bhind-Muraina, Madhya Pradesh.

It is believed that Gupta, a contractor who used to visit Personal Point, was in love with Sujata. When she refused to return his love, he hatched a conspiracy to kill her. In the process, Sujata's friend Deepa and Dr Kaul were also killed.

The acquitted are Kamal Singh, Vibhor Singh, Vijay Mohan Sharma, Hemant Kalra, Vinay Kumar, Deepak Das, Ravi Prakash, Kamal Kumar and Jayant Tyagi.
