Television producer Sohaib Illyasi arrested, charged with wife's deathThe Delhi police today arrested Sohaib Illyasi -- producer of the popular teleserial India's Most Wanted-- in connection with the death under mysterious circumstances of his wife Anju in January. Illyasi has been charged with harassment for dowry, dowry death and suppression of evidence under Sections 304 (b)/498(a) and 201 of IPC. The arrest was made from Illyasi's Kasturba Gandhi road home on the basis of a statement by his Canada-based sister-in-law before a sub-judicial magistrate yesterday. The police said Illyasi was being interrogated, and any further charges would be brought only after the questioning was complete. Illyasi will be produced before a court later today. Anju, 27, died on the night of January 11, reportedly of self-inflicted stab wounds in the abdomen after a fight with her husband at their Mayur Vihar apartment in East Delhi Illyasi had told the police that Anju committed suicide after an argument. He claimed to have rushed her to a nearby nursing home with the help of his personal security officer. He was provided security following threats to his life because of his television programme on wanted criminals. Anju was later taken to the AIIMS where she was declared dead. The police found blood stains on the carpet in the living room. The blanket and the bedspread in the main bedroom also had blood stains. In his statement to the SDM, who conducts a mandatory inquiry in the event of a woman's death within seven years of marriage, Anju's father, K P Singh, a retired professor of IIT Kanpur, had ruled out any foul play.
