E-Mail this report to a friend

Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani arrived in Agartala today on a two-day Tripura visit and would hold a series of meetings with state Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and senior officials on the insurgency issue.

During his stay, Advani would visit a border outpost of the Border Security Force at Khantlung, a tri-junction of Tripura-Mizoram and Bangladesh border and insurgency-hit Ganda Chara. He would also meet leaders of various political parties besides Governor Siddheswar Prasad.

He would also lay the foundation stone for the new capital complex today.

The Tripura government had been demanding additional security forces to intensify the ongoing counter-insurgency operation and to hold the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
