'It is a crime to ask Aamir to quit acting'

Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 14:49:20EST -0800
Subject: Promises and Lies

Your feature stinks! How can you put down such talented people? Are you just jealous because they have what you don't? As for Juhi, since when is she a flop? Arjun Pandit is a hit, at least on this planet. And she is doing much better then oldies like Madhuri. And she is doing much better than the Manishas and the Urmilas who cannot even recall their last hits.

Juhi gets much more offers than they do. How many other actresses have rejected as many films as she has? Girls like Madhuri, Manisha, Urmila, Sonali, Raveena, Aishwarya, Sushmita and the others are still around in the industry only thanks to Juhi's charity -- they are able to take on the offers she rejects. So go hide your faces is some dirt!

I agree with some of the resolutions, but I think telling Aamir Khan to turn to direction is ridiculous. The writer considers only his worst films in the last three years. I don't think he has seen Sarfarosh, which is one of the best films (in terms of both, faring at the box-office and substance) of 1999. He also seems to have conveniently forgotten 1947 Earth (the Indian entry for the Oscars) and Ghulam (another powerful film which was a hit).

The fact is that Aamir is one of the best and the most versatile actors in India. He has always given great performances in great films -- be it Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin or Rangeela or Akele Hum Akele Tum or Sarfarosh. It is a crime to ask him to quit acting.

Kudos to the writer of the story! The feature needs to be brought to the attention of actors like Amitabh Bachchan who do not realise that their innings are almost over if they do not "act" sensibly.

I didn't enjoy this article at all. Shah Rukh is not only my favourite actor, he is also the number one today and telling him to stop acting doesn't make any sense. Besides, Aamir shouldn't just be a director, he is a very good actor too. Bollywood is nothing without these two stars. I think you should be more fair to them.

A terrible story that was. Perhaps I should congratulate the writer for bringing to light the negative aspects of the personalities featured. But I believe that when you write about someone, the writer should be objective. When you highlight mindless movies like Mann and Ishq,, you should not forget that Aamir Khan has also worked in movies like Sarfarosh and 1947 Earth. In any case, I am not here to advocate on behalf of any of these actors but I think you should remember one thing -- senselessly deriding someone will not get you anywhere.

Very perceptive and very true, especially Shah Rukh's evaluation. I hope he reads it and takes it to heart.

You guys missed the obvious question -- about the sexy kiss which Kamal planted on her lips. What sort of interview is this?!

Rani Mukherjee does not want to work with him because she is so sexy.

The film I am talking about is Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. And what did I like about the movie?

I loved the fact that for a Shah Rukh Khan starrer, that too for a Sunday afternoon show, there were only a handful of people in the theatre.

I loved the fact that my mom, a die hard Shah Rukh Khan fan, hated the movie. Mela was so much better, she felt.

I loved the fact that my young cousin who is six years old and is another fan of the actor, said, "The film we saw yesterday Kaho Na Pyaar Haiwas better. Let's go home now."

I loved the fact that all the 12 of us who went to see this film came out of the theatre with a headache!

I loved the fact that some people in the audience didn't even wait to see the end, they just walked out of the theatre mid-way through the film.

I feel sorry for Juhi because she was so lovely in the film. Moreover, this is her first home production financed partly by her husband Jai Mehta. It is time someone told Shah Rukh Khan that he is definitely not the best actor we have!
