S Dhananjay Singh elected Manipur speaker

S Dhananjay Singh was today elected as the speaker of the seventh Manipur Assembly on the opening day of the first session of the new House.

His name was proposed by Chief Minister W Nipamacha Singh and seconded by L Bhagyachandra Singh.

Singh was elected from Thongju constituency in Imphal (east) district on a Manipur State Congress Party ticket.

The opposition Congress did not field any candidate for the speaker's post.

The newly elected speaker was escorted to the chair by the leader of the House and Chief Minister W Nipamacha Singh and Congress Legislature Party leader Radhabinod Koijam, among others.
