Superintendent of Police J Purnachandra Rao said in all 23 persons had been picked up, but eight of them were let off later as there was no evidence of their involvement in the riots.

Police parties have fanned out into various parts of the district and neighbouring districts in Andhra Pradesh to nab other culprits, he said in a statement.

Curfew was re-clamped at 2000 hrs (IST) in three police station areas of the old city. It would remain in force till 0800 hrs (IST) Thursday. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code remained in force in other parts of the city.

Leaders of all political parties are making a beeline to the place of worship where the explosion took place to express their grief and sympathy. Mir Ahmmed Ali Khan, president of the National Minority Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party visited the place and took exception to the Congress charging the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of being involved in the incident.
