Defence file concerning middlemen missing

E-Mail this report to a friend

The all-important file containing the government order eliminating middlemen in defence purchases is missing, hampering the probe by the Central Vigilance Commissioner.

"I have asked the defence secretary about the whereabouts of the file," CVC N Vittal said.

Defence Minister George Fernandes had asked the CVC to probe all defence deals after 1989 to ascertain whether any irregularity was involved in the purchases or any middlemen were involved.

To a query, Vittal also said that since cricketers are outside the purview of the Prevention of Corruption Act, CVC would not do anything about match-fixing allegations.
