Tohra wants autonomy for Punjab

E-Mail this report to a friend

Member of Parliament Gurcharan Singh Tohra today welcomed the autonomy resolution passed in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Monday, and said a similar resolution should be moved in the Punjab assembly too.

"Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal should move a resolution in the assembly seeking autonomy for Punjab," Tohra told reporters in Chandigarh.

He said this resolution could be based on the Anandpur Sahib Resolution passed by the Akalis sometime back.

Tohra said Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru had agreed on July 6, 1946 to a ''Sikh province anywhere in the northern part of India.''
