Six telecom unions to strike; four opt outSix telecom employees unions on Monday announced their resolve to go ahead with the proposed one-day strike on June 28 against corporatisation of Department of Telecom services despite the officers' associations and two other unions deciding to withdraw from the move. The unions comprising Group C and D employees said they would go ahead with the strike. Meanwhile, four organisations - two officers associations and two employees unions - said they have withdrawn from the strike considering the request by Communications Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday. The unions that backed out are Indian Telecom Services Association and Telecom Engineers Officers Association, National Federation of Telecom Employees and Bharatiya Telecom Employees Federation. The joint statement said the decision to withdraw the strike was conditional to the minister ensuring, through the Group of Ministers, that opportunities would be provided to all associations to present their views on corporatisation. The six unions going ahead with the strike are Telecom Employees Union (class III), Telegraph Traffic Employees Union (class III), Telecom Civil Wing Employees Union (group C and D), Telecom Administrative Officers Employees Union, Telecom Employees Union (line staff and group D) and P&T Industrial Workers Union.
