Bajrang Dal plans crusade against cow slaughter in OrissaBibhuti Mishra in Bhubaneswar After its 'conversion' battles with Christian missionaries, the Bajrang Dal has now announced that it will launch a state-wide crusade against cow slaughter. It will organise an 'andolan pakshya' from August 15 to August 22 to press for a ban on cow slaughter in Orissa. Bajrang Dal state chief Bhuban Mohan Jena said hundreds of cows were transported from Orissa to other parts of the country. He said the transportation process blatantly violates the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960. The act stipulates a maximum eight cattle per truck, whereas Jena alleged that as many as 40 heads are packed into each truck in extremely unhealthy conditions. Dal activists will pressurise the government for a proper rehabilitation package. "We will submit a memorandum to the state animal husbandry minister demanding construction of adequate number of cattle sheds, supply of fodder and improvement of veterinary services. We will hold peaceful demonstrations at all the district headquarters demanding protection for cows from indiscriminate slaughter and illegal transportation. Our agitation will continue till collectors strictly enforce the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act of 1960."
