Mediatory efforts on to secure Nawaz Sharif's release

E-Mail this report to a friend

In a bid to mend the sour relations between the military leadership and the Sharif family, certain common friends have been mediating between the two, a report by an on-line news agency said.

Ii is learnt that the military leadership has offered to release former Punjab chief minister and Nawaz Sharif's brother Shahbaz Sharif, and other jailed members of the Sharif family, if the ousted premier quits politics and emigrates.

If the offer is accepted, Shahbaz may be released along with younger brother Abbas Sharif and Hussain Nawaz. Shahbaz will also be allowed to head the Pakistan Muslim League and may be entrusted with a top slot in any interim set-up, the report added.

The report said the rulers of some friendly West Asian states and Gulf countries, retired generals and journalists were involved in the mediation effort.
