25 militants, four others killed in J&K

A National Conference block president and 25 militants were among 29 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir since last night while five others were arrested, official sources said today.

Militants shot dead NC block president Mohammad Rajab Bhat at Baramulla last evening while he was on his way home, the sources said.

Four unidentified militants and two security personnel were killed in an going encounter which broke out yesterday during a combing operation by security forces at Hajibal village in Baramulla, they said adding five houses were also gutted.

In another operation, two militants were killed in an encounter at Gadole in Anantnag district today, the sources said.

Two Pakistani militants, identified as Gayur and Ahsan Ali (both residents of Karachi), were gunned down in an encounter during a night-long joint operation by the Border Security Force and the special operations group of the local police at Tregam-Shadipora on the outskirts of Srinagar. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered, they said.

Six foreign mercenaries were killed in an encounter with troops during a 'seek and destroy' operation in Bhimber Gali area of Poonch district today, the sources said adding all slain militants belonged to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

Eight militants were shot dead in separate encounters at Bisma Gali in Doda district and Thandi-Kassi in Rajouri district last night, they said.

A Pakistan-trained militant Mohammad Saki was killed by troops in Poonch district last night, the sources said adding two militants, including a foreign mercenary, were killed in separate encounters at Parimpora in Srinagar and Daragam-Pattan in Baramulla today.

Militants also gunned down a jawan and injured another in Baramulla today, they said.

Security forces took into custody two Pakistani nationals, Maqsood Irfan of Kohita and Baber Ali of Sailkote from Bagyal-Dhara in Poonch district and R S Pora sector in Jammu region respectively last night, they said.

Police arrested two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh alias Jamsheed and Farooq Ahmad Lone alias Abid from Karan Nagar Chowk in Srinagar last evening while another militant was arrested from Baramulla today.

Security forces recovered 65 kgs of explosives, five detonators and five grenades from a militant hideout at Wakoora on the outskirts of Srinagar yesterday, they said adding police recovered and defused an explosive device from Poonch area in Jammu region last night.
