Four ISI men chargesheeted in AssamThe police today filed a chargesheet against four top Inter-Services Intelligence men in the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Guwahati. After the court granted bail to ISI man Javed Waqar yesterday as the police failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated time of 90 days, the police arrested Javed and Fasiullah under the National Security Act and later got the bail application rejected by filing another application. The others, Quari Salim, chief recruiting agent of the ISI in India, and Mohammed Akram have been sent to the Kashmir jail. All four were arrested last August when they had gone to a bank in Guwahati to exchange foreign currencies. According to the police, they were on a mission to recruit youths and carry on subversive activities in the region. Guwahati city superintendent of police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta said the police took time filing the chargesheet, due to the nature of the case. ''This is not a general case for us. We have prepared a watertight case providing every bit of investigation with documentary evidence. Besides, there is an international angle involving coordination with intelligence agencies in Calcutta, New Delhi and Mumbai'', he said. PTI
