Bihar all-party meet seeks PM's help to curb violence

By Our Correspondent in Patna

The all-party meeting called by the state government to discuss solutions to end the spate of massacres in central Bihar today asked Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to take the initiative and convene a similar meet at the national level.

The National Democratic Alliance and CPI-ML boycotted the meeting. They had boycotted the earlier all-party meet too.

The state government had already taken important decisions in the co-ordination committee meeting of the parties supporting the ruling party on Wednesday. Hence, there was little to discuss in today's conclave.

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav informed representatives of the various parties about the decisions taken in Wednesday's meeting. He also appealed to them to help the government solve the problem.

By calling upon the Prime Minister to call an all-party meeting, the RJD chief has tried to take the sheen off the June 25 all-party meet called by Samata Party chief and Union Agriculture Minister Nitish Kumar.

Laloo Yadav got a shot in the arm when the state Bharatiya Janata Party unit objected to Nitish Kumar's all-party meet. He repeated his charge that Nitish was hand-in-glove with the Ranvir Sena.
