De Lastic's body to be flown in on Saturday

E-Mail this report to a friend

The body of Archbishop Alan de Lastic, who died of shock at Krakow after his car met with an accident, will be flown in to New Delhi on Saturday evening from Poland. He died, apparently, of shock after his car swerved to save a cyclist, who was killed in the accident.

"The Polish priests want to have a prayer march on Friday before the body is flown to India. The body will reach here on Saturday evening," John Dayal, a close aide of the departed religious leader, said. A few Polish Bishops would be accompanying the body. It will be kept inside the Sacred Heart Cathedral for a couple of days. The funeral will take place on June 27, he added.

Besides various Christian leaders, relatives of the late Archbishop, staying in Australia and England, are expected to attend the funeral, Dayal said.

The 71-year-old de Lastic had been in the forefront of protests against the attacks on Christians in various parts of the country.

He was on his way back from Krakow to Warsaw after a visit to a shrine of Virgin Mary, popularly known as 'Black Madona', when the mishap occurred.

de Lastic was a proponent of inter-faith dialogue and a member of the National Integration Council.
