Over 20,000 pilgrims, mostly from Badrinath and Kedarnath holy shrines and Hemkund Sahib gurudwara have been stranded at several places on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway following incessant rains and landslides for 15 days, according to a report received in Popeshwar today.

The movement of about 2000 vehicles and buses had come to a standstill in Garhwal division as traffic between Rishikesh-Badrinath, Rudraprayag-Gaurikund, Karna Prayag-Narainbagarh, Tripak-Kandai, Gopeshwar-Gairsain-Ranikehets, Karnaprayag-Gwaldam-Almora, Nandprayag ghat, Gopeshwar-Pokhari and Gopeshwar-Lihimath was blocked by landslides, an official of Chamoli district said.

Authorities have asked the pilgrims and tourists to stay at safe places untill roads were cleared.

Power, water and ration supplies were disrupted due to continuous rain, the official said, adding arrangements for supplying essential commodities to remote villages were being made.
