The Bihar bandh, called by Left parties today, has been successful in central Bihar, when reports came in this afternoon.

CPI-ML leader Dipankar Bhattacharya was arrested when protesting against people ignoring the bandh call.

The bandh has been called after the Mianpur carnage, in which 34 people were killed by the Ranvir Sena.

The CPI-M is the only Left party not participating in the bandh, as it is an ally of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Life in Patna, the capital of Bihar, has been normal, with no untoward incident so far.

Educational institutions were closed due to vacations.

Meanwhile, the coordination committee meeting of the RJD and its allies began at Chief Minister Rabri Devi's residence this morning.

The meeting is discussing the law and order problem.

Prominent among the Congress who are attending the meeting are Mohsina Kidwai, General Secretary of the All-India Congress Committee and incharge of Bihar, and Madhavsinh Solanki, former Gujarat chief minister.
