Left parties have given a bandh call on June 21, in protest against the Bihar government's failure to prevent massacres, the latest being in Mianpur village, Aurangabad district.

Barring the Communist Party of India-Marxists, Karantikari Communist Party and Marxist Coordination Committee all major Left parties like the CPI-ML (Liberation), CPI, SUCI, MCPI, RSP and Forward Bloc have jointly given the call.

The CPM, MCC and KCP have kept away, as while the first two are supporting the Rabri Devi government from outside, KCP members are ministers.

The latest killings in Aurangabad took place in the bastion of the ultra Left Maoist Communist Centre and Peoples War Group.

The state government has declared a red alert in more than half a dozen districts of central Bihar.

Meanwhile, the coordination committee meeting of 10 parties supporting the RJD government will be held on Wednesday. The state government has also called for an all-party meet a day later.

In another development, the state government effected another major administrative shakeup. After transferring the Aurangabad SP and suspending all 12 policemen for negligence of duty last evening, it transferred seven inspector generals and 15 DIGs, following the latest massacre.

On Sunday, the government had announced the posting of six additional director generals of police in all zones. They have been delegated special powers. They used to be manned by IGs.
