Five persons killed in Bihar village

E-Mail this report to a friend

Notching up another dubious distinction for lawless Bihar, more than 50 criminals raided Rajebigha village in Nawada district last night and slit the throats of five persons, including an eight-year-old boy and a forty-year-old woman, after first shooting them, police said today.

District Superintendent of Police Vimlesh Prasad Singh said one person, who was seriously injured in the suspected vendetta killings, was admitted to hospital.

Police suspect the killings, which had sectarian undertones, since all the victims belonged to a particular community, were carried out by the local Akhilesh gang in retaliation for the murder of a man named Pawan Singh of the same village two days ago.

Director-General of Police K A Jacob, Inspector General of Police (central zone) Neelmani and other senior officers rushed to the spot.

The situation in the area was tense but under control, police added.
