Ahmed Patel quits as AICC treasurer

E-Mail this report to a friend

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel today resigned as All-India Congress Committee treasurer in protest against the jihad launched against him by a group of Congressmen in Gujarat.

Stressing his resolve to continue to work for the party, Patel said in a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi that ''the group that has made me the target of its media attack is doing considerable damage and I feel that my presence is indirectly contributing to irreparable damage to the party interests''.

He said the continued jihad by a small group led by the former Union minister in the Gujarat Congress (Madhavsinh Solanki), ''who is smitten by jealousies and having sinister designs'' has forced him to resign from the post and it would seem that the small group is firm on damaging the party because it is averse to his position in the AICC.
