2 killed as Howrah Exp rams into another trainTwo engine drivers of the Howrah-Amritsar Express were killed as it rammed into an empty rake of the Ambala City-Saharanpur passenger train between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala city railway stations early today, a railway spokesman said. Divisonal Railway Manager, Ambala, Vijay Kumar, said four bogies of the passenger train were completely damaged. Railway traffic on the Ambala-Ludhiana-Amritsar and Jammu Tawi mainline sections was disrupted due to the derailment. The exact cause of the mishap was not known, Kumar said, adding that the 3005 Howrah-Amritsar Express, which was picking up speed after it left Ambala Cantonment, rammed the empty rake of the Ambala City-Saharanpur train, which had suddenly halted. The rake was on its way to Ambala City for a regular run to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, a railway spokesman said. The drivers were identified as Nanak Chand and Prem Chand, he said. Railway traffic on the mainline Delhi-Amritsar and Jammu Tawi sections via Ambala Cantonment has been disrupted due to the train accident. Mail and Express trains diverted include the 4590 Bhatinda-New Delhi inter-city, 2014 Amritsar Shatabdi, 4660 Amritsar-Delhi Express, 4682 Jalandhar-New Delhi Express, 9361 Indore-Jammu Tawi Malwa, 2471 Mumbai-Jammu Tawi Swaraj, 2497 New Delhi-Amritsar Shan-e-Punjab, 2029 New Delhi-Amritsar Swaran Shatabdi, 5707 Barauni-Amritsar Express and 1057 Dadar Express. Railway sources said normal traffic is expected to be restored by evening. PTI
