Sikh wins a legal battle against Domino's

E-Mail this report to a friend

A Sikh, who was refused a job at a premier pizza company's outlet because he wore a beard, has won a settlement in his favour with the company promising to change its policy and agreeing to pay $ 5,000 dollars in legal fees to him.

Prabhjot S Kohli, who works with the Maryland State Highway Administration, sued Domino's in 1988 after he was turned away from a job because he sported a beard. He said his religion prohibited him from shaving, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

The daily said in 1990 the Maryland's Human Relations Commission charged Domino's with religious discrimination, adding that charges were dropped on Monday as part of the settlement. Domino's was quoted as saying that new recruits will have to wear a beard net, changing its long-standing policy of not employing people with beards.
