Purulia accused challenge court verdict

E-Mail this report to a friend

Five Latvians, now serving life imprisonment at Alipore Presidency Jail in the Purulia arms drop case filed a petition on Wednesday before the Calcutta high court challenging the judgement.

The five Latvians -- Alexandre Klichine, Oleg Gaidash, Igor Moskvitin, Igor Timmerman and Antimenko Eugueni -- were sentenced to a life imprisonment along with a British national Peter Bleach.

The city civil and sessions court had pronounced the judgement in on December 31.

The Latvian crew, in its petition, sought a stay of operation of the judgement as well as realisation of the fine imposed by the court in addition to life imprisonment.

They also appealed for bail on the ground that they were not a part of the conspiracy to drop arms and ammunition at seven villages in West Bengal's Purulia district.
