Josy Joseph in New Delhi

Ram Vilas Paswan persuaded the prime minister to transfer out Telecom Secretary Anil Kumar on Friday. Paswan and Kumar reportedly did not get along well.

According to a late night government communique, Shyamal Ghosh, who is currently in the textile ministry, will swap posts with Kumar.

Ghosh, who has earlier served in the department of electronics as its secretary, takes over as the new telecom secretary at a crucial time. The telecom secretary is also the chairman of Telecom Commission.

Paswan and Kumar have openly disagreed on several issues in the last few months. Paswan finally had a big fight with the secretary. Finally, on Friday, Paswan prevailed upon the cabinet committee on appointments, headed by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to transfer Kumar elsewhere.
