Ranchi DSP dies of injuries

Injured Deputy Superintendent of Police U C Jha died in hospital on Sunday, sending shock waves in the administration.

Jharkhand Chief Secretary V S Dubey told PTI that the administration has decided not to relax the curfew in Ranchi. Dubey said the decision to continue the curfew was taken as a precautionary measure in view of Jha's death.

Jha was injured in a confrontation with a mob on Thursday, protesting the killing of a seven-year-old girl in an accident. The police subsequently fired on the mob; three young men died in the firing.

No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the state capital when the curfew was relaxed briefly on Sunday. Jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force and Rapid Action Force patrolled Ranchi and surrounding areas.

Doctors said Jha was operated upon twice to remove a blood clot in the brain. But the internal bleeding did not stop and his condition deteriorated. He died at 1645 hours.
