Two civilians killed, rocket attack on army camp in J&K

Militants gunned down two civilians, launched a rocket attack on an army camp injuring three jawans and triggered grenade explosions wounding two security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening.

A possible tragedy was averted with timely detection of an improvised explosive device, while police arrested three Kashmiri youths from a Jammu hotel, an official spokesman said Friday. He said militants shot dead two civilians, one at Charwal in Rajouri and the other at Chak-Banola in Poonch, late Thursday night. The deceased, identified as Abdul Rashid and Mehmood Ahmad, were abducted and later killed. Three security personnel were injured in a rocket attack launched by ultras on an army camp at Pohru-Peth in frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir Friday afternoon, he said.

Two constables of Special Security Bureau were injured when militants attacked their vehicle with a grenade at Badshah Chowk in Srinagar Friday afternoon, he said. Militants also triggered grenade explosions at security pickets in Gosia Colony of Srinagar and Chogul of Kupwara. However, no one was injured, the spokesman said.

He said BSF troops detected and defused a powerful IED planted by militants on the main road at Goghama on Srinagar-Tangmarg road in north Kashmir Friday. Police arrested three Kashmiri youths suspected to be members of a suicide squad from a hotel at Hari market in Jammu city Thursday, he said.
