Vikram Sood is new RAW chief

Vikram Sood was appointed Research and Analysis Wing chief on Wednesday. A S Daulat retires at the end of this month.

Sood's appointment as head of the external arm of the country's intelligence was among a clutch of high-level appointments announced by the government.

Six appointments were at the secretary-level, most of which were made to fill vacancies caused by superannuation.

While S Sundarajan of the 1966 batch has been appointed officer on special duty in the Cabinet secretariat, K B Saxena, a 1964 IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, has been appointed secretary, department of official languages.

R Ramanathan replaces Arun Kumar, who retires as chairman, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, in the rank of secretary.

Secretary of the urban development ministry, N N Mookerjee, who is also retiring this month, has been replaced by K Kosalaram, of the 1965 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre.

P L Sanjeev Reddy, who retires as secretary, company affairs, has been replaced by V Govindarajan.
