Pappu Yadav arrested

Jankranti Morcha president and Member of Parliament representing Purnea Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was among hundreds of arrested on Wednesday from different parts of Bihar when they held demonstrations to protest against the 'anti-farmer' policies of the Union and state governments, official sources said.

Even as Yadav and his supporters took out a procession and headed towards Patna station to stall movement of trains, police intervened and took them into custody.

Among those arrested included independent Members of the Legislative Assembly Laxmi Yadav and Jainandan Yadav, besides several office bearers of the Morcha, including Mohan Yadav and Surendra Yadav.

They were detained inside the V S College campus in Danapur for some time before being released, the sources said.

When contacted, Pappu Yadav claimed that over 15,000 Jankranti Morcha activists were arrested by the police when they held demonstrations and attempted to block rail traffic to protest against the Centre's and state government's 'apathy towards addressing the problems facing the farmers in Bihar'.
