Political rivalry claims 2 more in Kannur

Tension gripped Koothuparamba and neighbouring areas in Kannur district of Kerala after another Bharatiya Janata Party worker and a Communist Party of India-Marxist activist were killed in separate incidents on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sreejith, 24, a CPI-M sympathiser and K K Biju, 25, a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader.

A BJP activist, C K Chandran, was murdered at Vattipram Sunday night.

While Sreejith was attacked by a group of armed assailants at Ayithara Mambaram, Biju was murdered at Peruvangat near Malur.

Police said the entire region is tense. Security personnel opened fire at Thokkilangadi near Koothuparamba to disperse clashing groups.

A strict vigil is being maintained in the district and senior officials are monitoring the situation.
