BJP worker killed in Kannur

A BJP worker was hacked to death at his residence in Vattipram near Koothuparamba in Kannur district of Kerala late on Sunday night, police said in Kozhikode on Monday.

A group of armed assailants barged into the house of C K Chandran at about 2230 hours (IST) on Sunday and threw country bombs before stabbing him. Chandran died on the spot, police said.

The murder is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the district witnessed after the bomb attack on Communist Party of India-Marxist district secretary E P Jayarajan on December two. The CPI-M had called for a hartal in the district on Sunday.

Many offices of the CPI-M had come under attack on Sunday as both BJP and CPI-M used country bombs to attack each other. Prohibitory orders under Section 21 and 23 of the Kerala Police Act had been clamped for a week in four police station limits in and around Koothuparamba, police said.
