Fresh summons to 3 foreign witnesses in Pathak cheating case: PTI

E-Mail this report to a friend

A designated court in Delhi Wednesday issued fresh summons to three foreign witnesses, including a former US Congressman, in the Lakhubhai Pathak cheating case in which former premier P V Narasimha Rao, Chandraswami and his aide K N Aggarwal alias Mamaji are facing trial.

Special Judge Ajit Bharihoke issued the summons to former US Congressman Marvyn M Dymally (California), Binod Bhat (Canada) and Swami Chakradhari (New Jersey) asking them to appear as defence witnesses before it on October 12, the next date of hearing.

All the accused are facing trial for allegedly cheating London-based pickle tycoon Pathak, now dead, of 100,000 dollars on the promise of getting him a paper pulp supply contract in India in 1986.

The court, while rejecting the Central Bureau of Investigation submission for closing recording of evidence on the ground that summoning of these foreign witnesses would cause delay in proceedings, said the examination of these defence witnesses was relevant.

It said since the defence witnesses had expressed their willingness to depose before the court, they should be paid for their travel, boarding and lodging expenses as per the rules.
