Delhi HC dismisses plea against KBC: PTI

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Delhi high court has refused to entertain a petition seeking to ban the television programme 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' as it amounts to gambling.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Arijit Passayat and Justice D K Jain dismissed the writ as the petitioner withdrew it after discussion.

The court recently declined to intervene in the matter after central government standing counsel N K Kaul submitted that there was nothing illegal about the programme.

The petition filed by Narayan Chandra Dey alleged that "the entire programme 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' is contrived for gambling and thus it is illegal and damaging the society".

It said that the "very invitation to the public to spend their own money for telephoning in an uncertain situation amounts to gambling as only 10 out of a thousand expectants were selected" to participate in the programme.
