12 Pak soldiers and militants killed in Indian shelling

E-Mail this report to a friend

At least 12 Pakistani soldiers and militants were killed Tuesday in retaliatory Indian shelling while a couple was injured in the Uri sector due to unprovoked shelling by Pakistan troops.

A defence ministry spokesman told UNI Tuesday night that in response to artillery, mortar and small arms firing by Pakistan on Kurali area in Uri sector early Tuesday, Indian troops retaliated, targetting Pakistan defences and behiks (huts) located close by.

He said these behiks were being used as launch pads by Pakistan to push militants across the Line of Control.

It is presumed that six to eight militants and three to four Pakistan soldiers were killed in the firing. There were no casualties on the Indian side.
