Woman escapes fetters after two months: PTI

E-Mail this report to a friend

A young woman was kept fettered by her in-laws for two months at a village in Jodhpur district, allegedly for not bringing adequate dowry, police said on Tuesday.

However, 18-year-old Gogi escaped early on Monday and reported the matter to the police.

The police said they have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested her husband Ram Singh and mother-in-law Jhamku Devi.

Gogi, married for two years, was allegedly tortured for not bringing in adequate dowry and kept fettered to the bed, after her return from her parents place two months back, the police said.

She escaped on Sunday night, when her in-laws forgot to chain her to the bed.

She ran from Chauhanon Ki Dhani village, near Osian town in Jodhpur district, with the fetters around her feet, they said.

She walked down to Osian, from where she reached Jodhpur by bus and reported the matter to the police.

A case was registered and she was sent back to Osian, where she was handed over to her parents, the police added.
