Pakistan expels Indian High Commission official

E-Mail this report to a friend

Two days after India expelled a Pakistan High Commission staffer in New Delhi for spying, Islamabad on Saturday retaliated by ordering an Indian High Commission official in Islamabad to leave the country within a week.

The Pakistani government had decided to ask for recall of P C Dey, an official of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, 'as he has been found to be engaged in activities incompatible with his official status', a diplomatic euphemism for spying, a Pakistan Foreign Office statement said.

Dey had been asked to leave Pakistan by September two, the statement said.

India's Deputy High Commissioner Sudir Vyas was called to the Foreign Office and informed about the Pakistan government's decision.

India on Thursday expelled Pakistan High Commission staffer Malik Muhammad Rafique and gave him one week's time to leave the country.
