Monsoon session of Parliament ends

The four-week monsoon session of Parliament drew to a close on Friday evening with the sine die adjournment of proceedings in both Houses.

Among the important official business approved during the session, which commenced on July 25 are bills seeking to grant statehood to Uttaranchal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, a constitution amendment for the promotion in service for people belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, the cable television networks (regulation) amendment bill and supplementary demands for grants relating to the Union and railway budgets.

Disinvestment of equity in public sector undertakings, alleged attacks on linguistic and religious minorities and the massacre of Amarnath pilgrims and others in the Kashmir valley were subjects of discussion.
