The death toll in heavy rains, ravaging several parts of Andhra Pradesh has risen to 120 with rain-related incidents pouring in from across the state even as army and Indian Air Force were engaged in evacuating people from marooned areas and supplying food packets.

Twenty-six bodies have been recovered since Thursday night after rain waters started receding in several areas which got a respite from the rain fury, that had inundated over 300 villages, official sources said.

IAF helicopters, which rescued over 150 people Thursday, continued their operations Friday.

The coastal district of Guntur was the worst affected accounting for 37 deaths followed by the state capital (20) while 13 deaths due to house collapses and drowing were reported from Nalgonda, 11 each from Cuddapah and Kurnool, ten from Medak, six from Nellore and four each from Krishna and Prakasam districts, official sources said.

Rain-related incidents were also reported from West Godavari, Warangal, Khammam and Nizamabad and enumeration of the bodies was still on, they said.

The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad had received 24 cm rainfall till Friday, the highest in the last 46 years, leading to inundation of as many as 110 low-lying localities and throwing normal life out of gear.

Rescue work was on for people stranded in submerged areas, particularly those abutting Musi river. Over 35,700 people were shifted to relief camps in the city.

As many as 13 districts were affected with Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool, Krishna and Nalgonda bearing the brunt of the nature's fury.
