Kashmiri Pandits reject action plan on their returnAjay Kaul in New Delhi Kashmiri Pandits rejected an action plan approved by the Jammu and Kashmir government for the return of displaced people, saying the migrants could not afford to go to the valley in the present circumstances. Panun Kashmir, Kashmiri Samiti and All India Kashmiri Pandit Conference leaders reacted sharply to the plan recommended by the M L Kaul committee that proposes setting up of transit settlement camps at three places in the Kashmir valley as part of the comprehensive return package. "The proposal is completely impractical and ill-designed," said Panun Kashmir spokesman Ramesh Manvati. "The plan does not address the political aspirations of the Kashmiri Pandits nor economic and other guarantees." "The whole idea of shifting the migrants from one camp to another is rubbish," said AIKPC president H N Jattu, adding, "if such is the concept of rehabilitation of the displaced people, then we are better off here." He asserted that Kashmiri Pandits could not become 'cannon-fodder for militants' and asked, "In a place where even security camps are attacked, what is the guarantee of our security?" Kashmiri Samiti president C L Gadoo said the ground situation was not conducive for the return of the migrants. "We do not want to become hostages in the worsening situation," he added.
