40 feared drowned in Madhya Pradesh: AFPAt least 40 people were feared drowned after a bus was swept away in the waters of a swollen river. Seven passengers were rescued by local people and up to 20 clung to trees along the banks of the Panas river in Madhya Pradesh. Tthe remainder of the estimated 70 people on the bus were unaccounted for, with rain and darkness hampering rescue attempts. Police said the accident happened at 17:30 hours IST as the bus driver tried to steer the vehicle over a submerged bridge. The bus was travelling from Vyavhari to Sidhi, in the northern edge of the state. Northeast India suffered heavy rain in recent weeks, resulting in flooding in some areas.
