Five villagers, including a woman and two children, have been abducted by foreign mercenaries from the border village of Dheri in Poonch district and taken to Pakistan occupied Kashmir, a defence spokesman said in Jammu on Thursday.

The spokesman, quoting village sarpanch Mohammad Yusuf, said eight foreign mercenaries in combat uniform and black patkhas came to the village on the night of August 13-14 and began threatening the people to leave the village and go to PoK.

Quoting elderly villagers, the spokesman said the militants also outraged the modesty of the womenfolk and mercilessly beat up men and children who refused to obey them.

They then abducted family members of a house, located approximately 50 meters from the line of control, and took them to PoK, the spokesman said.

They have been identified as Shakil Hussain Shah, Mumtaj Ahmed, Salima Begum and her children Basharat Hussain and Rafti Naz, he said.
