IBM to impart computer education in Maharashtra schools

E-Mail this report to a friend

IBM has agreed to assist in imparting computer training in about 14,000 schools in Maharashtra, according to Chief Minister Vilas Deshmukh.

Stating this in his Independence Day message, Deshmukh said the Democratic Front government headed by the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party would put special emphasis on the spread of information technology to counter the 'digital divide' and bring about 'digital unity'.

Maharashtra can expect foreign investment worth Rs 9 billion as a result of his recent tour abroad, he claimed.

He had also been able to restart World Bank aid to various stalled development projects in the state during his visit to Washington, the chief minister said.

Reiterating that the state was going through a financial crisis, Deshmukh said this had not deterred his government from taking important decisions in the interests of the common man, farmers and farm labourers.

An ambitious water conservation programme was also underway with the help of noted social worker Anna Hazare and a fund of Rs 20 billion was being raised for it, he noted.
