Suspected French paedophile jumps bail in Goa and flees

E-Mail this report to a friend

Sandesh Prabhudesai in Panjim

Barely two months after the flight of a suspected paedophile from Goa, another offender has jumped bail and possibly left the country.

Dominique Sabire, a French national arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the infamous child abuse racket run in Goa by Englishman Freddy Peats in the early '90s, has not reported at the Calangute police station since February 27.

The state government has now requested the South Goa district and sessions court to cancel his bail.

Sabire had managed to get his bail conditions modified on February 16 so that he had to report at the Calangute police station every alternate day instead of at the CBI office in Panjim.

Public prosecutor S B Faria has now requested the court to issue a non-bailable warrant against him.

The CBI had arrested Sabire at the Delhi airport in 1998 while in transit to Nepal. He was charged with child abuse and remanded to judicial custody.

He was, however, granted conditional bail on June 23 last year.

Surprisingly, the police inspector in-charge of Calangute police station Goltekar informed his seniors about Sabire jumping bail only on March 29.

"I have sought an explanation from my Calangute officer for the delay. But what more can I do than report the matter to the court as well as the CBI?" said North Goa Superintendent of Police Davesh Srivastav.

Child Rights in Goa, a non-governmental organisation, has demanded Goltekar's immediate suspension.
