Ex-CM calls for opening of LoC

E-Mail this report to a friend

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Mohammad Shah said India and Pakistan should allow free and peaceful movement of Kashmiris across the Line of Control.

Shah, in a statement in Srinagar today, called the LoC a line dividing the sentiments of the people of the state.

Commenting on the decision of the Amanullah Khan faction of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front to cross the LoC on October 4, Shah, brother-in-law of Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, said the line had only divided Kashmiri families for the last 50 years.

He said crossing the line is not any sin and will, in fact, help both India and Pakistan to resolve the vexed problem peacefully.

Shah, whose Awami National Conference has boycotted the Lok Sabha election, welcomed the Pakistani government's statement that the people of Kashmir are the main party to resolve the dispute.
