E-Mail this report to a friend

Rashtriya Rifles troops killed three militants and smashed six of their hideouts, besides recovering huge cache of arms and ammunition including the deadly RDX, mortar bombs, rockets and grenades in the Kashmir valley since last evening.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops of the Rashtriya Rifles noticed fresh footprints in Kupwara district's Kalaroos forest last evening. Tracing them, they recovered four AK rifles, 42 rockets with boosters, three pistols, one disposable rocket, two grenade launchers, 107 detonators, 166 grenades, 20 kg of RDX and more than 3500 rounds of ammunition.

The spokesman said as per information, a group of ten militants was moving in that area last night. When troops cordoned off the area, the militants fled, leaving their weapons behind. However, one militant was killed by the troops, he added.

In another successful operation in the woods of Nowgam, troops unearthed and smashed six specially built underground hideouts of militants last evening. Arms and ammunition recovered from there included five rockets, two disposable rocket launchers, ten mortar bombs, 15 detonators, more than 3000 rounds and four grenades besides some explosives and blankets. However, no arrests were made as militants fled before the troops could reach the spot.

Meanwhile, troops gunned down two militants at Brigam in Anantnag district this morning and recovered two AK rifles from them.
