Security forces killed seven militants, including four foreigners, while militants injured two women and abducted one person in the Kashmir valley in the last 24 hours.

A Border Security Force spokesman said some militants were hiding in Village Vilgam in the frontier district of Kupwara. On receiving the information, BSF personnel cordoned off the area and launched house-to-house searches.

When the troops were about to enter the house in which the militants were hiding, they were fired upon with automatic weapons. The jawans retaliated and in the six-hour gun battle that ensued, three foreign militants were killed.

Five Kalashnikov rifles, 29 anti-personnel mines, six remote-control devices and some documents were recovered from the militants.

The spokesman said security forces killed another foreign militant at Bari Bahak, also in Kupwara, during a search operation last evening. One Kalashnikov, one pistol and 11 grenades were recovered.

Security forces also gunned down two extremists at Machil Nar and Chiran Nuji in Kupwara district during two different operations last evening. Four grenades, one Kalashnikov rifle, 20 detonators, eight rockets and 4 kilos of explosives were recovered from them.

Another terrorist was killed in an encounter at Pinjai Marhot in Surankote while a security jawan was injured in firing at Mandi last evening.

The spokesman said terrorists entered the house of Lal Din Khan at Village Sumlar Bandipora late last night and fired upon the inmates indiscriminately, resulting in injuries to two women who were hospitalised.

Terrorists also abducted Riyaz Ahmad Ganai from his Gahab Pulwama house last night, while forces captured one militant in Baramulla.
