Court refers Janata Dal (U) back to EC

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Patna High Court today directed the Janata Dal (united) to approach the Election Commission with suggestions to prevent malpractices in the Lok Sabha elections.

The court also suggested to the Election Commission to take appropriate measures for conducting free and fair election in the state with utmost care. It observed that the commission should take appropriate action against any official suspected to have shown partisan behaviour in the conduct of election.

The directive came in the wake of a public interest petition filed by the party seeking probe into alleged excess printing of ballot papers by a printing press in Calcutta.

A division bench comprising Justice B P Singh and Justice I P Singh, however, clarified that they would not go into the case and were only concerned with free and fair elections.

The court said the petitioners should approach the Election Commission secretary with their apprehensions.
